Genetic Counsellor, Hereditary Cancer
BC Cancer is seeking a skilled Genetic Counsellor to join our Hereditary Cancer Program. As a member of our team, you will play a critical role in providing genetic counselling to patients and their families, helping them navigate the complexities of hereditary cancer.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough medical and family history interviews with patients and their family members.
- Explain hereditary cancer patterns and associated cancer risks to patients and their families.
- Recommend cancer screening based on family history and standard guidelines.
- Explain genetic susceptibility testing and its potential benefits and harms, and schedule testing as appropriate.
- Coordinate genetic counselling and testing for out-of-province family members as needed.
- Refer patients to health professionals as necessary.
- Document patient information, including medical history, risk assessments, and cancer surveillance strategies.
Requirements:
- Graduate of an accredited master's program in Genetic Counselling.
- Minimum of two years of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Board eligible or Board Certified with the Canadian Association of Genetic Counsellors and/or the American Board of Genetic Counselling.
