At the University Health Network, we are seeking a highly skilled Medical Device Reprocessor to join our team. As a Medical Device Reprocessor, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient processing of medical devices.
Job SummaryThe Medical Device Reprocessor will be responsible for performing procedures at multiple stations, checking and preparing supplies and inventory, and performing high-temperature steam, low-temperature ethylene oxide, and other forms of sterilization. You will also be responsible for entering and updating records, utilizing knowledge of over 1000 instruments, and performing picking and issuing responsibilities.
Responsibilities- Perform procedures at multiple stations, including decontamination, cleaning, and sterilization of medical devices.
- Check and prepare supplies and inventory, ensuring that all necessary materials are available for processing.
- Perform high-temperature steam, low-temperature ethylene oxide, and other forms of sterilization, following established protocols and procedures.
- Enter and update records, ensuring accurate and timely documentation of all processing activities.
- Utilize knowledge of over 1000 instruments, identifying and differentiating between instruments to ensure efficient and correct selection, labeling, sorting, and inventorying.
- Perform picking and issuing responsibilities, ensuring that all necessary materials are available for processing.
- At minimum, completion of a post-secondary certificate up to one year in Sterile Supplies Processing Techniques, including a four-week practicum, or completion of the Central Services Association of Ontario (CSAO) course, plus one year full-time equivalent MDRD experience, or successful completion of the in-house MDRD course, including one year MDRD experience or recognized equivalent.
- Membership with the Central Service Association of Ontario (CSAO) is an asset.
- Proficient in the correct operation of all processing equipment.
- Knowledge of instrument technology, case cart picking procedure, sterilization/decontamination procedures/methods, microbiology principles, and Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS).
- Knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and other relevant legislation.
- Maintains knowledge of over 1000 different surgical instruments.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently to understand verbal work orders and/or instructions.
- Ability to understand materials such as detailed forms, standard memos, and/or letters.
- Ability to understand materials such as detailed operating and procedures manuals, specialized and technical manuals.
- Ability to add, subtract, and/or divide and calculate percentages.
- Compliance with Body Substance Precautions provisions.
- Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job, able to lift 6 kg to 10 kg.
- Compliance with sanitary, sterilization, and infection control requirements.
- Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high-quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance with UHN standards.
- Exercise initiative and good judgment with the ability to multi-task.
- Compliance with confidentiality requirements under UHN Privacy Policy.
- Effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Knowledge of applicable legislative, UHN, and/or departmental policies.
- Client service-oriented, with the ability to effectively work with diversity and appreciate that people with different opinions, backgrounds, and characteristics bring richness to the challenge or situation at hand.
- May be required to work at multiple areas as well as rotating shifts in emergency situations.
