Community Support Specialist for the Deafblind

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Community Support Specialist to join our team at CNIB Deafblind Community Services. In this rewarding role, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals who are Deafblind.
About Our Team
CNIB Deafblind Community Services is one of Canada's leading providers of specialized support and emergency services for people who are Deafblind. Our mission is to empower individuals who are Deafblind to maximize their independence and engagement with the world around them.
Job Summary
This role involves providing individualized support and guidance to clients who are Deafblind, enabling them to access information, learn new skills, and participate fully in their communities. You will work collaboratively with clients to determine their needs and develop personalized plans to achieve their goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one support and guidance to clients in their homes or communities
- Facilitate access to information, including learning concepts and skills to make informed decisions
- Offer sighted guide and environmental information to support clients' navigation and interaction with their surroundings
- Work collaboratively with clients to determine their level of support and develop personalized plans
- Empower clients to actively participate in their communities, including recreation, education, vocation, self-advocacy, and learning opportunities
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Knowledge of theories and principles of intervention
- Understanding of Deafblindness, Deaf/Deafblind culture, and common associated health-related concerns in all life stages
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Self-motivation and flexibility with the ability to multi-task
- Ability to take initiative, work independently, and effectively with minimal supervision
