Job Description:

As a Litigation Assistant in Insurance and Tort Liability, you will play a vital role in supporting our lawyers with administrative tasks.

Your Key Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Manage calendars, ensuring they are up to date and reminding lawyers of upcoming deadlines.
  • Arrange meetings, conference rooms, food/refreshments, check rooms prior to meetings, and liaise with meeting attendees.
  • Arrange for travel bookings and accommodations as required.
  • Provide legal administrative support on mainly Tort files.
  • Prepare correspondence, pleading, and other legal documents.
  • Assemble materials for mediation, pre-trial, and case conference briefs, motion records, etc.
  • Open/close/maintain legal files.
  • Assist with scheduling discoveries and other meetings and manage calendars.
  • Assist with preparation for trials and arbitrations.
  • Attend to court filings.
  • Liaise with clients, opposing counsel, courts, tribunals, and professionals.
  • Manage tickers and bring-forward systems for lawyers.
  • Arranging defence medical assessments.
  • Enter, maintain, and update client details and relevant information in the Firm's CRM contacts system.
  • Assist with docketing, billing, and cheque requisitions.
  • Other administrative duties as needed.

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

The Right Qualifications:

  • A Legal Assistant or Law Clerk Diploma from an accredited institution.
  • Experience supporting multiple lawyers, preferably with specialization in insurance and tort liability.

Your Key Skills:

  • An understanding of civil litigation, including court filing/service procedures.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, research tools, and other systems implemented by the firm.
  • Excellent communication skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • A focused, professional, flexible, team-player attitude.
  • Strong initiative and follow-up skills.
