Milliman is seeking a seasoned Senior Data Protection Counsel to join our Global Data Privacy Team.
Job Summary:
We are looking for a highly experienced Data Protection Counsel with a strong background in data privacy law, particularly in the US and Canada. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the Global Data Privacy Director in implementing Milliman's Global Data Protection Policy across the USA and Canada. About the Role:
- Conduct research and stay up-to-date on new and revised federal and state privacy laws, reporting findings to the Global Data Privacy Director.
- Provide legal advice on a daily basis, supporting business units in their compliance efforts.
- Assist with the implementation of Milliman's Global Data Protection Policy in the USA and Canada, ensuring alignment with relevant regulations.
- Presents data privacy training sessions to various stakeholders within the organization.
- Negotiates U.S. Data Sharing Agreements and collaborates with Milliman's U.S. Legal Team.
- Develops ad hoc Data Sharing Agreement templates and responds to requests for data privacy advice from the business.
- Identifies and mitigates potential privacy risks in processes and systems.
- Reviews policies and procedures for gaps and recommends prioritization for addressing these gaps.
- Participates in vendor due diligence checks, contract negotiations, and maintains relationships with local Data Privacy Contact Persons.
- Drafts employee notices/consent forms as needed and maintains Milliman's Records of Processing Activities.
- Manages Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs) and other requests from data subjects residing in the USA.
About You:
- You hold a Juris Doctor or equivalent qualification and have passed the Bar Exam.
- Minimum 6 years of post-admission experience working in data privacy law, preferably in a law firm or in-house legal practice.
- You have a solid understanding of US federal and state data privacy laws, including HIPAA/HITECH, GLBA, FCRA, and international data privacy laws, such as GDPR.
- You possess excellent organizational skills, contract drafting, and negotiation expertise.
- You are a native English speaker with strong communication skills and the ability to adapt to different cultures and mentalities.
- Experience in giving trainings and demonstrating professionalism in interactions with external clients is essential.
Benefits and What We Offer:
We offer a competitive salary range of $180,000 - $250,000 per annum, depending on experience, plus comprehensive benefits and opportunities for professional growth and development.
