Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Application Development to lead our AML Technology team at Scotiabank. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for overseeing the delivery of essential software solutions and management of key platforms and capabilities that our business partners rely on to adhere to regulatory commitments and protect our customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Leadership
    • Lead a team of dedicated software engineers/developers, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure their success in developing and maintaining various software applications.
    • Establish and maintain standard operating procedures, ensuring consistency and adherence to best practices across all operational activities.
  • Collaboration and Communication
    • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including other IT support specialists, and project managers, to facilitate seamless integration of new applications and updates.
    • Liaise with external vendors and other internal partners to address any issues or concerns related to application performance, availability, and functionality.
  • Accountabilities
    • Manage relationships with third-party vendors and service providers, ensuring that contractual obligations are met.
    • Communicate regularly with internal stakeholders, providing updates on application performance, incident resolution, and ongoing support.
    • Ensure that application development practices comply with relevant Bank Enterprise and Security standards.
    • Implement and/or update tooling used to provide effective monitoring.
  • Delivery and Budget Management
    • Ensure the delivery of all AML Technology commitments and deliverables.
    • Manage inputs into the budget for application development group.
Requirements
  • 10 years of experience in software development.
  • At least 5 years in a leadership or managerial role.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading application development teams.
  • Strong understanding of software development methodologies.
  • Experience with modern software development tools and platforms.
  • Proficiency or experience in data analytics and visualization tools.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly analytical with strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience with cloud-based application development and deployment is a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Certification or experience in software development methodologies is desirable.
  • Experience in the Financial Services industry an asset.
