Our organization at First United Church Community Ministry Society seeks a highly skilled and dedicated individual to fill the position of Staff Lawyer, Special Projects.
This is a three-year term role, contingent upon grant funding. The selected candidate will be part of our team focused on providing responsive, low-barrier services to individuals who are low-income, underhoused or homeless in the Downtown Eastside community.
Responsibilities:
- Identifying areas for expanded legal service in critical need and collaborating with the Advocacy program to develop strategies for growth
- Conducting research, analyzing data, and making recommendations for law reform and policy changes
- Developing and implementing educational programs and workshops to enhance knowledge and skills of staff and community members
- Maintaining relationships with partner organizations and stakeholders to promote collaboration and achieve common goals
Qualifications:
- A law degree and license to practice as a lawyer in British Columbia
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a similar role, preferably with judicial review applications in British Columbia
- Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills
