Job Summary:

Barr Engineering Co. is seeking a senior-level water and wastewater engineer to join our team. This role will involve working on challenging and progressive projects focused on water and wastewater supply and distribution systems, collection, reuse, and treatment facilities for mining and industrial clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake evaluation, planning, and implementation of water, wastewater, and reuse system operations to address current and future goals.
  • Work on treatment technology evaluations, including data analysis, mass balance calculations, modeling, bench testing, and pilot testing.
  • Assist with existing system operation, troubleshooting, and process improvement evaluations.
  • Develop conceptual and detailed engineering, including plans and specifications for construction.
  • Assist with construction, start-up, troubleshooting, and operation of new systems.
  • Prepare technical reports.

Business Development:

  • Build and maintain client relationships.
  • Track marketing leads and project opportunities.
  • Develop proposals and presentations.
  • Network and participate in industry associations.
  • Share Barr's capabilities with existing and potential clients.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil, environmental, or chemical engineering, or related field.
  • Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) licensure in Alberta and/or British Columbia, with the ability to become licensed in other provinces as needed.
  • 10 or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Strong technical skills related to water and wastewater engineering.
  • Experience with preparation of, and managing preparation of, engineering plans and specifications, equipment selection, and cost estimating.
  • Exposure to treatment plant operations.
  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members, regulators, and clients.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in building working relationships and leading and working with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Willingness to travel and periodically adjust personal schedules to meet project needs.
  • Legal authorization to work in Canada without the need for sponsorship from Barr Engineering Co.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in civil, environmental, or chemical engineering.
  • Engineering knowledge and experience with industrial processes such as mining, manufacturing, petroleum refining.
  • Engineering knowledge and experience with landfill leachate.
  • Sound understanding of applied aquatic chemistry and environmental microbiology.
  • Experience at all stages of design, from concept through final including commissioning stage.
  • Experience with Oil Sands Process Water (OSPW) treatment technologies and receiving environment limitations.

Work Arrangement:

A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position, which involves splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office.
