Job Title: Plant Manager: Initiating Systems

The Plant Manager: Initiating Systems is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the automated electronic and shock tube detonator assembly plants. This includes managing the assembly process, overseeing quality control and validation actions, leading the production staff, and ensuring compliance with all labour, safety, environmental, and corporate policies and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Safety Leadership: Demonstrate and/or lead the commitment to achieving Zero Harm through behavioural based safety practices.
  • Value Stream Alignment: Ensure alignment of activities and resources within the value stream, and facilitate cross-organization collaboration and associate involvement where appropriate.
  • Plant Productivity: Optimize plant productivity through efficient use of resources and equipment.
  • Material Productivity: Improve material productivity by reducing waste and increasing first-pass efficiency.
  • People Productivity: Enhance people productivity through training and development programs.
  • Cost Management: Ensure cost efficiency of every operation by actively managing daily costs, overtime, wastage, and efficiency.
  • HSE Compliance: Adhere to sound HSE principles, including ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Management Systems: Maintain and continually improve the management systems based on ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, and international safety standards.
  • Quality Control: Work closely with quality control personnel to review product consistency and monitor scrap rates to determine trends and areas for improvement.
  • Cost Reduction: Monitor production expenses and research ways to reduce costs while maintaining safety and quality standards.
  • Safety and Housekeeping: Maintain and support a superior safety and housekeeping program, including timely communication requirements.
  • Performance Management: Control, track, and review performance against objectives, KPIs, production, and safety targets, and lead improvement actions to ensure optimal performance.
  • Manpower Management: Effectively manage manpower requirements, production planning, stock management, instrumentation calibration, plant maintenance, plant modifications, and safety controls.
  • Facilities Maintenance: Maintain existing plant facilities and equipment in a good state of repair, adhering to the prescribed quality assurance framework.
  • Reporting and Investigation: Timeously report, investigate, and follow-up on all safety and quality deviations.
  • Reporting and Review: Timeously and accurately review and follow-up on manual and system-generated production and engineering reports, followed by timeous corrective actions.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering, Business, or related discipline.
Experience:
  • 5+ years related technical experience.
  • 3+ years' experience in a leadership position or supervisory experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • 3+ years' experience in Supply Management within a manufacturing environment (advantageous).
  • Complete understanding of Safety, Quality, Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), Capacity/Resource Planning, Continuous Improvement, and all other activities that go into the production process.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and develop operational plans.
  • Knowledge of business finance linking financial outcomes with operations actions and strategy.
  • Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma and continuous improvement.
