Collingwood General and Marine Hospital (CGMH) is seeking a skilled Health Information Management Coder to join our team. As an essential member of our Health Information Systems department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and quality of patient data.
About the Role
This full-time position is specifically for inpatient coding (DAD) and requires a graduate of an approved Health Information Management Program. The ideal candidate will have experience in Meditech Expanse and be a member in good standing with the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA) and Certified with the Canadian College of Health Information Management (CCHIM).
Key Responsibilities
- Code and abstract DAD and NACRS charts using CIHI Guidelines and Principles, Ontario MOH guidelines, and hospital policies and procedures.
- Ensure data quality and accuracy through data validation processes and generate reports and queries to identify discrepancies in the MED2020 system.
- Communicate with physicians, nurses, and other clinical staff on documentation issues related to specificity and accuracy of coding.
- Meet workload standards as required for the specific HIM assignment.
- Stay up-to-date with changes in coding practices, CIHI Guidelines/Principles, and Hospital Policies and Procedures.

Requirements
- Graduate of an approved Health Information Management Program.
- Experience in Meditech Expanse is required.
- Member in good standing with the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA) and Certified with the Canadian College of Health Information Management (CCHIM).
- 3 years' experience coding/abstracting with DAD.
- Previous experience working in Release of Information would be considered an asset.
Preferred Qualifications
- Excellent organization and prioritization skills.
- Ability to work independently and effectively communicate with other members of the healthcare team.
- Health Information Management preferred.
- Knowledge of Meditech Client/Server is strongly desired.
