Critical Care Psychiatric Nurse

At Vancouver Coastal Health, we are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Critical Care Psychiatric Nurse to join our team. As a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care in our Psychiatric Emergency Assessment and Treatment (PEAT) unit at Lions Gate Hospital.
About the Role
We are looking for a nurse who is passionate about delivering high-quality care to patients with complex mental health needs. Your expertise in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care will be invaluable in helping us achieve our goal of providing safe and effective care.
You will work collaboratively with our interdisciplinary team to provide urgent direct care to patients presenting to the emergency department. Your comprehensive physical, mental health, and substance use assessments, crisis interventions, stabilization, and care planning skills will be essential in supporting patients through their most vulnerable moments.
Responsibilities
- To assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for patients and families across their lifespan, within the PEAT Unit.
- To provide urgent, direct care to patients presenting in the emergency department.
- To perform comprehensive physical, mental health, and substance use assessments, crisis interventions, stabilization, and care planning.
- To provide culturally safe, trauma-informed, patient and family-centered care while applying medical management and/or self-care management principles.
- To act as a resource for the interdisciplinary team by providing information based on nursing theory and practice related to patient's care needs.
Requirements
- A current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- Two (2) years' recent related mental health and substance use experience including experience with patients in emergency, urgent care, and/or medical/surgical areas.
- Demonstrated ability to provide comprehensive head-to-toe nursing assessments and interventions related to common diagnosis and specific clinical situations relevant to the designated patient group.
- Demonstrated ability to perform focused secondary assessments and integrate information from a variety of sources including diagnostics and develops a plan of care relevant to the designated patient group.
- Demonstrated ability to anticipate and respond to potential complications and care issues relevant to the designated patient group.
