The City of Regina is seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Bus Operator to join our team. As a Bus Operator, you will be responsible for operating a transit vehicle in a safe and courteous manner, providing effective and safe transportation for the citizens of Regina, while delivering exceptional customer service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate a transit vehicle in a safe and courteous manner, adhering to all applicable rules and regulations.
- Transport passengers on schedule, assisting with transit information and monitoring fares.
- Ensure passenger safety when boarding, riding, and departing buses.
- Report operational problems, collisions, delays, and/or mechanical issues.
- Navigate challenging customer interactions respectfully while multi-tasking to ensure passenger safety.
- Follow defensive driving guidelines and local traffic laws.
- Contribute to Regina Transit's professional image by demonstrating safe, responsible, and ethical behavior.
- Punctuality when reporting for duty is essential.
- Perform required inspections and air brake tests of vehicles according to Regina Transit policies and procedures.
Requirements:
- Demonstrated initiative, judgment, and superior skill in operating buses in various weather and road conditions.
- Ability to deliver excellent customer service at all times, dealing with situations professionally.
- Remaining calm and self-controlled when dealing with difficult situations.
- Cooperating with Transit Supervisors, other City agencies, and/or departments to meet customers' needs.
- Ability to achieve results while being mindful of a respectful, inclusive, and service-minded work environment.
- Attention to detail and adherence to specific procedures/instructions.
- Knowledge of the City of Regina's geographic layout (streets, landmarks, places of interest, etc.).
- Map reading skills are essential.
- Completion of Grade twelve (12), GED, or equivalent, including a suitable driving and work history record, and demonstrated ability to deal with the public.
Selection Process:
- Resume and cover letter review.
- Email request for proof of education, Driver's Abstract, and work entitlement in Canada (if applicable).
- Job Suitability test via email.
- In-person interview.
- Reference checks.
- Criminal Record Check.
- Successful candidate will begin a 6-week training program with the City of Regina Transit Department.
Additional Requirements:
- Successful candidate may be required to obtain and provide a satisfactory criminal record check, as per the City of Regina's Criminal Record Check Policy.
- Successful candidates will be required to provide proof of acquired education.
- Additional assessments may be conducted to evaluate competencies, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
