Maintenance Technician

About the Role:
The YMCA of Greater Toronto is seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician to join our team. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing building equipment, responding to work orders, and ensuring the safe and continual operation of pools, whirlpools, saunas, and steam rooms.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain and repair building equipment, including painting and drywall, HVAC equipment, fire safety and emergency equipment, and lockers, surface floors, and plumbing as needed.
- Ensure the safe and continual operation of pools, whirlpools, saunas, and steam rooms, along with related equipment, chemicals, and cleanliness, as required by relevant legislation.
- Perform light-duty cleaning, project cleaning, general cleaning, and laundry services.
- Ensure the safety of all members, property, and oneself by following established workplace health and safety practices and procedures.
- Perform building and equipment repairs as necessary, contacting contractors as needed and providing supervision during repairs.
- Respond to all emergencies in the facility and report any maintenance issues to the Facility Manager.
- Provide coverage for center opening and/or closing and respond to requests for assistance during on-call duty periods as required.
- Assist with materials management related to building supplies, ensuring adequate inventory levels and ordering/replacing materials as necessary.
- Actively participate in scheduled programs, meetings, and special events.
- Implement and monitor appropriate policies and procedures to ensure safe and effective member and volunteer participation.
- Build relationships with members and seek opportunities to share the YMCA story while educating members and guests on the YMCA as a charity.
Requirements:
- High School education or equivalent experience.
- Completion of courses offered as part of the Building Operator Certificate an asset; willingness to increase knowledge and skills in this area.
- Current certification in Standard First Aid and CPR level C an asset.
- Minimum of 5 years related experience in skilled trades and/or building maintenance, experience and aptitude in multiple areas including electrical/plumbing, operating engineering/pneumatics, mechanical HVAC, pool filtration/water chemistry.
- Experience in pool operation an asset; Pool Operator Certificate preferred (certification must be obtained within first three months).
- WHMIS and related health and safety training an asset.
- Computer Skills an asset; Computerized facility management applications an asset.
- Excellent organization skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
