Electrical Engineer Job Overview

We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our team at Equinox Engineering Ltd. in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

  • The successful candidate will play a key role in the design and execution of electrical engineering projects, particularly within the oil and gas sector.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, along with expertise in medium and low voltage power distribution design, protective relaying, motor control systems, area classification specifications, electrical equipment sizing, and PLCs, are essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and Documentation: Prepare critical electrical documentation, including area classifications, fugitive emissions studies, single line diagrams, and load lists.

  • Project Execution: Provide electrical input for detailed scope of work, design basis document, and project execution plan.

  • Design and Development: Develop electrical designs for projects or proposals and establish detailed engineering design criteria.

  • Analysis and Review: Analyze vendor or subcontractor designs for specific equipment and review the work of colleagues to ensure design consistency and integrity throughout the project.

  • Verification and Estimation: Verify all discipline deliverables for accuracy and lead the development of electrical material take-offs (MTOs) and labor estimates.

  • Engineering Support: Provide electrical input for Design Basis Memorandum (DBM), detailed scope of work, and Project Execution Plan (PEP) in coordination with other disciplines and contribute to project schedules.

  • Design Specifications and Procurement: Develop and evaluate electrical equipment and construction specifications and lead engineering procurement activities, including MRQ/MRP development, technical evaluation/recommendation, and vendor drawing approvals.

  • Construction and Support: Develop Construction Work Package, including project description, construction specifications, IFC drawings, and material lists, and offer engineering support during construction, including field engineering, inspection, and special studies.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • A Professional Engineer (P. Eng) with an Electrical Engineering degree.

  • 3 to 15 years of experience in electrical engineering within the oil and gas industry, with an EPCM background.

  • Experience in Oil & Gas facility projects, including heavy oil facilities, well tie-ins, pipelines, compressor stations, and field gas processing facilities.

  • Familiarity with various electrical codes and standards (e.g., CSA, IEEE, API) and ability to coordinate with other engineering disciplines.
