Animal Care Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as an Animal Care Assistant at the NWT SPCA.
About the RoleThis is a vital role that plays a significant part in ensuring the welfare of animals in our care. As an Animal Care Assistant, you will be responsible for carrying out a range of tasks to maintain the cleanliness and safety of our animal enclosures, as well as providing essential care and attention to the animals themselves.
Tasks and Responsibilities- Walking dogs to provide exercise and socialization;
- Cuddling cats to help reduce stress and promote calmness;
- Performing kennel cleaning duties to maintain a clean and safe environment;
- Accompanying veterinarians on vet runs to support medical procedures;
- Participating in events and activities to raise awareness and funds for the NWT SPCA;
- Fostering animals in your home to provide temporary care and socialization;
- Maintaining the cleanliness and organization of our facilities through housekeeping duties;
- Providing basic grooming services to animals in our care;
- Supporting public education initiatives to promote animal welfare and responsible pet ownership;
- Assisting with dog training programs to help rehabilitate and rehome animals;
- Maintaining the physical infrastructure of our facilities through maintenance and repairs;
- Recycling and sorting materials to reduce waste and minimize our environmental impact;
- Contributing to fundraising efforts to support the NWT SPCA's mission and goals;
- Picking up and dropping off animals from airports to support our rehoming program;
- Providing administrative support through clerical and office work.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A passion for animal welfare and a commitment to providing excellent care and attention to animals;
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with colleagues, volunteers, and the public;
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team to achieve common goals;
- A flexible and adaptable approach to work, including the ability to work varied shifts and perform tasks that may be physically demanding;
- A willingness to learn and take on new responsibilities as needed.
This position is compensated with a salary of $45,000 - $60,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. Additional benefits include:
