Bakery Supervisor Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Bakery Supervisor at Calgary Co-op. As a key member of our bakery team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our bakery department, providing exceptional customer service, and leading a team of Bakery Utility Clerks and General Utility Clerks.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide customer service and maintain positive customer relations through the proper handling of questions, comments, requests, and complaints.
  • Plan and perform all aspects of bakery functions, including but not limited to, working knowledge of the Cake Decorator function, stocking, displays, facing, and the operation of bake-off ovens in an efficient and organized manner.
  • Handle merchandise, ensuring quality, and minimizing damages and markdowns. Provide substitutions and ensure price integrity, including price changes.
  • Perform general clean-up duties, such as cleaning spills and display fixtures, to ensure a neat and organized department is maintained.
  • Ensure the proper care, use, and maintenance of equipment and tools, and report repair requirements to the Bakery or Duty Manager.
  • Responsible for all aspects of ordering merchandise and supplies.
  • Responsible for all aspects of receiving, including reviewing/verifying and authorizing appropriate invoices, returns, transfers, claims, and proper storage of products.
  • Responsible for organizing and conducting inventory.
  • Provide supervision/direction to staff in the Bakery, including ensuring daily functions are carried out in an organized and efficient manner, ensuring health and safety rules and regulations are adhered to, and providing technical training and day-to-day instruction.
  • Provide administrative support to the Bakery Manager, including participating in performance management of subordinates, assisting with the development of department work plans, and participating in interviews as required.
Requirements:
  • Grade 12 education or acceptable combination of experience and education.
  • Six (6) months of bakery or equivalent retail experience, with strong product knowledge.
  • Basic receiving, ordering, and merchandising skills.
  • Basic Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Related post-secondary education.
  • Experience in supervising others, planning, and organizing events, projects, or programs.
  • Kronos knowledge.
