Job Summary

The Dietary Aide is a vital member of our team, responsible for providing exceptional service to our residents and clients. As a Dietary Aide, you will be part of a dynamic team that delivers high-quality food and nutrition services in a long-term care facility.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Prepare and serve meals to residents and clients in a timely and efficient manner.
  2. Communicate production concerns to the Dietary Supervisor and Cooks to ensure seamless food service operations.
  3. Complete nourishment assignments as per the prescheduled snack menu and nourishment labels.
  4. Follow therapeutic diets, meal plans, and serving sizes as directed by the Registered Dietitian and/or Dietary Supervisor.
  5. Set tables and trays to ensure a clean and welcoming dining environment.
  6. Ensure menus are available and current to meet the dietary needs of our residents.
  7. Clean and organize dining rooms and food service/kitchen areas to maintain a safe and healthy environment.
  8. Store food items upon delivery and replace pantry supplies as necessary to maintain inventory levels.
  9. Wash and clean dishes and cookware to maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
  10. Adhere to resident's likes and dislikes list and communicate changes to the Dietary Supervisor and Registered Dietitian.
  11. Assist with basic food preparation to support the culinary team.
  12. Participate in the Live to Eat program to deliver a quality, pleasurable meal service to our residents.
  13. Practice safe food handling procedures, proper hand hygiene, and infection control procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
  14. Assist in the orientation of new staff to the department as required to ensure a smooth transition.
  15. Attend in-service education sessions, staff meetings, committee meetings, workshops, etc., as directed by the Dietary Supervisor to stay up-to-date on industry best practices.
  16. Be knowledgeable of your specific responsibilities under the LTC Act and other relevant legislation, as well as those of staff in the department.
  17. Act as a member of the inter-disciplinary team within the Home to provide comprehensive care to our residents.
  18. Effectively utilize all electronic systems provided to streamline operations and improve efficiency.
  19. Participate in committees as required to contribute to the development of policies and procedures.
  20. Perform other duties as assigned to support the team and achieve our goals.
  21. Participate in and demonstrate an understanding of Resident Safety principles and practices into all day-to-day activities to maintain a safe working environment.
  22. Work in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and the Long Term Care Homes Act, and their regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
  23. Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and the Personal Health Information Protection Act.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic food preparation and handling principles obtained through the enrollment or completion of a Food Service Worker training program at an established college as listed in the Ontario Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology Act, 2002 or a registered private career college in Ontario.
  • Completion of the Food Handler/Proton Training Program.
  • Knowledge of therapeutic diets an asset.
  • Basic ability to follow oral and written instructions and to communicate with residents and staff.
  • Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening that is less than six (6) months old at time of hire.
  • As a condition of employment, candidates are required to submit documented results of TB testing, as per Public Health requirements.
  • Proof of annual CPR recertification.
  • A minimum of six (6) months experience in a similar or related position.

Working Conditions

  • This position is located in a long-term care facility, exposure to illnesses and germs are possible on a daily basis.
  • Work schedule to be determined; shifts may include days, evenings, nights, and weekends.

Compensation

As per the collective agreement or non-union job band.
