Job Summary

North York General Hospital is seeking a skilled Recreational Therapist to join our Adult Mental Health Day Hospital team. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will work closely with patients, families, and healthcare professionals to provide individualized and group therapeutic recreation interventions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and implement individualized and group therapeutic recreation plans to promote social interaction, emotional well-being, and cognitive stimulation.
  • Conduct assessments to determine patient strengths, needs, and interests, and develop strategies to address these areas.
  • Participate in patient rounds and collaborate with clinical teams to ensure comprehensive care.
  • Supervise Recreation Therapy students and volunteers, and provide educational programs to hospital staff and the community as needed.

Requirements

  • University degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies (Therapeutic Recreation Specialization) or a University degree with a post-graduate diploma in Therapeutic Recreation.
  • Membership in Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (TRO).
  • Minimum 2 years working experience as a Recreational Therapist.
  • Experience working with people who have mental illness.
  • Experience related to the implementation of individual and group intervention plans, including intervention techniques and methods of behavioral change.
