Job Title: Educational Guidance Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Educational Guidance Specialist to join our team at Gateway College. As an Educational Guidance Specialist, you will play a vital role in supporting students in their academic and career journeys.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Education and Career Guidance: Provide expert guidance to students on their academic and career paths, helping them to make informed decisions about their future.
  • Counseling and Support: Offer counseling and support to students on personal and social issues, as well as educational and career-related concerns.
  • Community Engagement: Collaborate with teachers, parents, administrators, and community agencies to provide comprehensive support to students.
  • Program Development: Co-ordinate the provision of counseling and information services to students, parents, and teachers, and develop programs to support student success.
  • Test Administration: Administer and interpret standardized intelligence, aptitude, and interest tests to help students identify their strengths and areas for improvement.
  • Referral Services: Refer students to other specialized services when required, ensuring they receive the support they need to succeed.
  • Staff Development: Participate in staff meetings, educational conferences, and workshops to stay up-to-date on best practices and share knowledge with colleagues.
  • Recruitment and Outreach: Arrange for the recruitment of graduating students by employers, and prepare and deliver presentations at conferences, workshops, and symposia to promote student success.
  • Student Support: Answer inquiries from students, and evaluate and document their progress to ensure they are meeting their goals.
Support for Newcomers and Refugees:
  • Settlement Support: Participate in a government or community program or initiative that supports newcomers and/or refugees, and assist with their immediate settlement needs.
  • Social and Labour Market Integration: Support the social and labour market integration of newcomers and/or refugees, facilitating access to community resources, language training, and skills training.
  • Credential Recognition: Support newcomers and/or refugees with foreign credential recognition, helping them to access education and employment opportunities.
Support for Youth:
  • Youth Employment: Participate in a government or community program or initiative that supports youth employment, and offer on-the-job training tailored to youth.
  • Welcoming Work Environment: Provide awareness training to employees to create a welcoming work environment for youth, and facilitate their access to education and employment opportunities.
Support for Indigenous People:
  • Cultural Competency: Participate in a government or community program or initiative that supports Indigenous people, and provide cultural competency training and/or awareness training to all employees.
  • Elder Support: Facilitate access to Elders who can offer support and guidance to Indigenous workers, promoting their well-being and success.

Work Environment: This is a permanent, full-time position with a 30-36 hour workweek. The work language is English.
