Job Title: Educational Guidance Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Educational Guidance Specialist to join our team at Gateway College. As an Educational Guidance Specialist, you will play a vital role in supporting students in their academic and personal journeys.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Education and Career Guidance: Provide expert guidance to students on their academic and career paths, helping them to make informed decisions about their future.
  • Counseling and Support: Offer counseling and support to students on personal and social issues, ensuring they feel supported and empowered to succeed.
  • Community Engagement: Collaborate with teachers, parents, administrators, and community agencies to provide a comprehensive support network for students.
  • Program Development: Co-ordinate the provision of counseling and information services to students, parents, and teachers, ensuring that our programs meet the needs of our diverse student body.
  • Test Administration: Administer and interpret standardized intelligence, aptitude, and interest tests, providing valuable insights to students and their families.
  • Referral Services: Refer students to other specialized services when required, ensuring they receive the support they need to succeed.
  • Staff Development: Participate in staff meetings, educational conferences, and workshops, staying up-to-date with best practices in educational guidance and support.
  • Recruitment and Outreach: Arrange for the recruitment of graduating students by employers, helping to connect our students with career opportunities.
  • Presentation and Communication: Prepare and deliver presentations at conferences, workshops, and symposia, sharing your expertise with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Student Support: Answer inquiries from students, providing timely and effective support to ensure their success.
  • Progress Evaluation: Evaluate and document students' progress, identifying areas for improvement and celebrating successes.
Support for Newcomers and Refugees:
  • Program Participation: Participate in a government or community program or initiative that supports newcomers and/or refugees.
  • Settlement Support: Assist with immediate settlement needs of newcomers and/or refugees, including housing, transportation, storage, childcare, and winter clothing.
  • Social and Labour Market Integration: Support the social and labour market integration of newcomers and/or refugees, facilitating access to community resources, language training, and skills training.
  • Credential Recognition: Support newcomers and/or refugees with foreign credential recognition, helping them to access education and employment opportunities.
Support for Youth:
  • Program Participation: Participate in a government or community program or initiative that supports youth employment.
  • On-the-Job Training: Offer on-the-job training tailored to youth, helping them to develop the skills and confidence they need to succeed.
  • Awareness Training: Provide awareness training to employees to create a welcoming work environment for youth.
Support for Indigenous People:
  • Program Participation: Participate in a government or community program or initiative that supports Indigenous people.
  • Cultural Competency Training: Provide cultural competency training and/or awareness training to all employees to create a welcoming work environment for Indigenous workers.
  • Elder Support: Facilitate access to Elders who can offer support and guidance to Indigenous workers.

Work Details: Permanent, 30-36 hours per week, English language.
