About the Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Community Outreach Worker to join our team at Nova Scotia Health. As a key member of our Mental Health and Addictions department, you will play a vital role in providing clinical services to adults and their families affected by mental illness and/or substance use or gambling disorder.

Reporting to the Health Services Manager, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Providing a range of clinical services, including screening, assessment, brief intervention, case management/navigation, individual and group treatment
  • Navigating, advocating, and coordinating resources and services within Mental Health and Addictions and the community

You will be required to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team, utilizing principles of harm reduction, community development, and psychosocial rehabilitation (PSR) to deliver high-quality care.

About You

To succeed in this role, you will need to possess:

  • A Bachelor of Social Work degree and registration with a professional regulatory body
  • At least one year of post-BSW clinical experience in Mental Health and Addictions
  • Excellent assessment skills, ability to implement an evidence-based plan of care, and high level of independent practice
  • Working knowledge of the DSM and experience in offering brief, supportive intervention strategies focusing on harm reduction and recovery
  • Ability to navigate and de-escalate situations, offer crisis support, and facilitate groups
  • Motivational interviewing skills, ability to engage with clients/families, and demonstrated knowledge of community resources and program development methods
  • Demonstrated knowledge of recovery-oriented practice, client-centered care, social determinants of health/social context, and trauma-informed care approaches
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to build and maintain collaborative working relationships
Hours and Compensation

This is a permanent full-time position, with 75 hours biweekly. The salary range for this role is $33.27-$42.01 hourly.
