Meat Department Operations Manager

About the Role:
Federated Co-operatives Limited is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Meat Department Manager to join our team. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for the oversight and management of the Meat Department, ensuring adherence to brand and merchandising standards, marketing efforts, people and financial management, safety and asset protection.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee, plan, and manage daily operations for the Meat Department, including head meat cutter duties, pricing, inventory management, and implementing marketing programs.
- Prepare, administer, and achieve budgeted goals as it relates to the pricing, sales, margins, expenses, inventory of the commodity and sales per employee hour (SPEH).
- Oversee adherence to brand and merchandising standards, marketing efforts, image standards, safety, and asset protection.
- Build strong customer relationships and deliver solutions, overseeing and monitoring client satisfaction levels, ensuring customer issues are resolved, and identifying areas for improvement.
- Provide leadership to the team, including recruitment and selection of new team members, performance management, performance appraisals, training and development of team members.
- Oversee the completion and follow-through of all safety and environmental policies and procedures, ensuring standards are achieved.
- Ensure compliance with applicable government standards, as well as ensuring the practice of safety regulations by store employees and customers to promote the elimination of hazardous conditions.
About You:
We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in retail store operations, preferably in the food/grocery industry. You should have at least 5 years' experience in the Meat Department and 3-5 years' supervisory/retail management experience. A Journeyperson Meat Cutter Certificate is preferred, as well as a Business diploma or certificate. You should also have strong problem-solving skills, be able to remain calm under pressure, and possess strong customer service and analytical and problem-solving skills.
Requirements:
- Grade 12 or equivalent is a must.
- Journeyperson Meat Cutter Certificate preferred.
- Business diploma or certificate would be an asset.
- At least 5 years' experience in the Meat Department.
- 3 – 5 years' supervisory/retail management experience preferably in the food/grocery industry is preferred.
- Food Handling Certificate.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Effective team leadership skills and work well within a diverse multigenerational, highly motivated team.
- Possesses strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and ability to manage computer files efficiently.
- Comfortable in working and learning new HR and Finance Technology.
- Knowledge of commodity sales, gross margin and inventory management.
- Comfortable working with different types of operating equipment such as a pallet jack, walkie stacker and computers/till.
- Must be capable of occasional lifting up to 50 pounds and standing for extended periods of time.
