Assistant Produce Manager Job Description

About the Role:

The Assistant Produce Manager plays a vital role in the efficient operation of the produce department at Thrifty Foods. Reporting to the Produce Manager, this individual will assist in leading, managing, and developing a team of produce staff to deliver exceptional customer service, maintain high food safety standards, and achieve sales and profit targets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Produce Manager in scheduling, labor cost management, budgeting, inventory control, presentation, and merchandising.
  • Assist in hiring, training, and developing produce staff to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in their roles.
  • Communicate operational requirements and changes to department employees.
  • Create a shopping experience that engages customers, enhances loyalty, and drives sales and profit growth.
  • Provide superior customer service, demonstrating a thorough understanding of product knowledge, including awareness of product changes, promotions, and seasonal trends.
  • Monitor the implementation of corporate policies, initiatives, and Standard Operating Procedures, ensuring timely and accurate submission of relevant documentation.
  • Ensure OH&S, food safety, and other regulatory requirements are implemented and maintained.
  • Assist the Department Manager in achieving financial targets and maximizing sales and margins, including forecasting, variance analysis, and labor cost control.
  • Support with managing the department budget.
  • Thoroughly understand all relevant company programs and attend training as required.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment as per Company requirements.

Requirements:

  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Above-average skills in both oral and written communication.
  • Good work ethic and ability to multitask.
  • High School Diploma.
  • Minimum of 12 months of retail store experience in an applicable department.
  • Exposure to reading and analyzing financial reports and budgets.
  • Availability to work a variety of shifts, including weekends and evenings.
