Housing Support Specialist Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Housing Support Specialist to join our team at Avanti Software Inc.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing direct support to tenants and case managers to address housing-related issues. This role involves meeting with tenants, completing documentation, conducting income reviews, and providing risk assessments.

In this position, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and families by ensuring their needs are met and they receive the necessary support to maintain stable housing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Meet with tenants to complete necessary documentation and provide support
  • Conduct income reviews and calculate rent geared to income
  • Track arrears and assist tenants in developing repayment plans
  • Provide risk assessments and develop contingency plans
  • Support move-out transitions and ensure records are kept up-to-date
  • Coordinate collection of rent and other payments from clients
  • Ensure timely and accurate month-end financial reporting
  • Provide first-line contact for tenants regarding billing issues
  • Review and implement cash control procedures to safeguard assets
  • Collect and report on financial data
  • Record Notices of Admission and Vacancy in the internal database
  • Data entry into the Rent Administration System (Sage)
  • Administration of Notices as per legislation
  • Follow-up with N4 Eviction Notices and attend Landlord and Tenant Board hearings as required

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Residential Tenancies Act and Landlord/Tenant Board Legislation
  • Post-secondary education in a related field, such as social work, law, or business administration
  • Basic knowledge of accounting systems and budgets
  • Knowledge of common acting out behavior of socially disadvantaged individuals
  • Effective communication skills for working with marginalized populations
  • Law Clerk/Paralegal experience is an asset
  • Mandatory qualifications include a valid Class 'G' Driver's license, standard First Aid and CPR certification, and Vaccine Verification
