Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia seeks a highly skilled and experienced Benefits Program Specialist IV to join our team. This leadership-level position requires a strong understanding of benefit programs and the ability to provide guidance and training to other specialists.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as a lead worker and assist the supervisor by conducting program training for staff, reviewing case files, and providing back-up supervision of staff.
  • Provide consultation and guidance to staff on complex cases and assist with the development of effective case management strategies.
  • Prepare case records and reports, and work on the most complex and sensitive cases.
  • Interpret policies and procedures applicable to benefit programs and assist staff and clients with issues related to eligibility determination.
  • Collect and compile statistics from caseloads, and provide training to other eligibility workers on an individual or group basis.
  • Coordinate training programs and orientation for new employees and clients, and explore alternative sources of income and assistance.
  • Respond to inquiries from the public concerning public assistance programs and eligibility requirements, and ensure that established deadlines are met.
  • Prepare monthly reports and maintain records of activities, and assist in training new staff on policy and procedural matters.
  • Coordinate and interact with other community resources and partners to assist clients in meeting assessed needs.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive knowledge of applicable laws, codes, policies, and procedures, as well as basic human behavior, social problems, and resources. They will also have skill in operating a personal computer and associated office and agency software, and the ability to work independently with a high degree of autonomy.

The candidate must have same as required in Benefit Program Specialist III with additional work experience in a leadership role and benefit programs, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
