Job Title: ESL Instructor

We are seeking a qualified ESL Instructor to join our team at the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching English as a Second Language to adult learners at the CLB 1 & 2 level.

Job Summary:

The ESL Instructor will be responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing English language instruction to adult learners in a non-credit ESL class. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of adult learning principles and be able to create engaging and effective lesson plans.

Responsibilities:
  • Plan and deliver English language instruction to adult learners at the CLB 1 & 2 level
  • Assess student progress and adjust instruction accordingly
  • Develop and implement engaging and effective lesson plans
  • Communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and administrators
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills
Qualifications:
  • Current TESL Ontario Certification (OCELT)
  • Completion of CLB Bootcamp and Introduction to PBLA from the Centre for Canadian Language Benchmarks (recommended within 6 months of hire)
  • Knowledge and experience applying the Canadian Language Benchmarks
  • Knowledge and/or application of Portfolio Based Language Assessment (PBLA)
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to work effectively with teaching colleagues, administrative staff, and the management team
  • Excellent practice and knowledge in the principles of adult learning
  • Demonstrated experience using Learning Management Systems
  • Demonstrated experience using technology as a teaching and learning tool
  • Excellent communication and cross-cultural skills
