Technical Manager, Power Sector Modeling

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Manager to lead the development and expansion of our power sector modeling platform. As a key member of our Energy Tool Design and Development team, you will be responsible for creating mathematical formulations, designing new models, and ensuring complete documentation of mathematical formulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create mathematical formulations and design for new and revised model formulations
  • Ensure complete documentation of mathematical formulations
  • Develop comprehensive test cases
  • Lead testing functionality, including regression testing of existing platform
  • Work collaboratively with a small team of enthusiastic software developers
  • Collaborate with internal tool users regularly
  • Provide user support, including troubleshooting, error/infeasibility investigation, and solutioning
  • Plan, implement, and release model versions
  • Extend the life of mature platform with optimized and sustainable engineering practices
  • Mentor, coach, and build internal user base skill sets using and applying the platform
  • Develop new or supplemental tools to support in-depth analytics
  • Explore alternate development platforms and system architecture

Requirements:

  • Master's degree or PhD in computer science, mathematics, or operations research
  • Minimum of 8+ years relevant experience in energy tool development management and operations research
  • Experience with complex power sector/energy systems modeling, load flow, contingency analysis, etc.
  • Experience with linear and mixed integer programming tools (such as AMPL/GAMS/CPLEX/Gurabi/Ilog) and.Net, C# or relevant technologies with SQL Server
