Job Summary

The Recreation, Cultural and Facility Services department at the City of Ottawa is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Aquafitness Instructor to join our team. As an Aquafitness Instructor, you will be responsible for teaching specialized aquafitness programming to participants in a safe and enjoyable manner, following the guidelines of the certifying agency and corporate and departmental policies.

Responsibilities
  • Teach specialized aquafitness programming to participants in a safe and enjoyable manner
  • Follow the guidelines of the certifying agency and corporate and departmental policies
  • Ensure a high level of customer service and provide alternatives and options to participants
  • Understand contraindications for specialty populations and possess the physical capability to perform the ongoing duties of the position
Requirements
  • Completion of Grade 11 and current certifications from a recognized certifying organization
  • Minimum of 6 months of experience or equivalent apprenticeship
  • Aquafitness Instructor Specialty certification (CALA, YM-YWCA, WaterART or other recognized certification)
  • Current Standard First Aid, CPR and/or AED certificates
  • AODA Accessibility/IASR Training
  • Current National Lifeguard Pool certificate is an asset
  • Current Oxygen Therapy or LSS Airway Management certificate is an asset
Knowledge and Competencies
  • Corporate and Departmental policies, guidelines and directives
  • City of Ottawa emergency response procedures
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers
  • Knowledge of specialty area, including but not limited to, demographic needs, goals and objectives and how to safely design and facilitate specialty fitness programs
What You Need to Know
  • Language Requirement: Various language requirements, locations may require English only, French only OR Bilingual competencies
  • Police Record Check: The successful candidate will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa's satisfaction
