McKeil Marine is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) professional to join our team as a HSQE Lead. This role will play a crucial part in supporting our operations department in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment, while ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.
Key Responsibilities- Provide operational leadership and guidance to the HSE efforts of our business divisions, ensuring adherence to all applicable safety-related regulatory requirements and company standards.
- Develop and implement HSE policies, procedures, and emergency response programs to mitigate risks and promote a culture of safety.
- Participate in the maintenance and continuous improvement of our Quality, Safety, and Environmental Management System (QSMS).
- Drive system compliance of vessel, operations, and technical leaders under all HSE programs, with the ultimate goal of zero harm.
- Employ HSE best practices and risk assessment methodologies to minimize risk to our crews, assets, customers, and environment.
- Drive the incident management process, providing guidance, process oversight, and participating in investigations of work-related injuries/illnesses or near misses.
- Monitor and assess emerging HSE regulatory changes, providing proactive alerts and assessing potential impacts on the organization.
- Assess hazards and safety protocols for new jobs, projects, or identified gaps in our existing systems.
- Oversee client/contractor safety pre-qualification processes.
- Foster active engagement with Safety Representatives and drive strong partnerships across departments and teams to deliver exceptional health and safety programs.
- Participate in sharing safety-related information, skills, and best practices across the organization.
- Perform internal and external audits to provide recommendations for corrective findings.
- Provide onboarding orientation to new hires and occasionally provide safety-related training.
- Visit company vessels to evaluate and examine current HSE measures.
- Degree or Diploma in HSE or a related field.
- Minimum 8-10 years of related work experience in safety or a related field, with strong knowledge of Federal and international laws and regulations, as well as ISM, ISPS, and MLC Management systems.
- Experience with tanker or oil major related industries is preferable.
- Knowledge of federal marine safety-related acts and regulations.
- Strong ability to interpret and apply regulatory standards to the marine industry.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to generate detailed and comprehensive reporting.
- Ability to investigate and resolve workplace incidents, conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective and preventative measures.
- Certified trainer or experience in providing training such as First Aid & CPR is considered an asset.
- Auditing capabilities in the Federal HSE environment is considered an asset.
- Experience within the marine industry is considered an asset.
- Burlington head office with some travel to company vessels and warehouse(s).
- Additional hours may be required dependent on operational demand.
- Hybrid work schedule upon successful completion of onboarding.
