Job Summary
The Northwest Territories Power Corporation is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Plant Operations Manager to join our team. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of our electrical generating units, plants, and their respective auxiliary equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the operation of power-generation equipment and machinery during normal operation, scheduled maintenance, and emergency repair procedures.
- Monitor and control operational parameters, including electricity flow, voltage, and distribution, to ensure compliance with standard protocols and power grid requirements.
- Utilize various analog and digital informational displays to understand operational performance variables and record information accurately into manual logs and computer databases.
- Identify and initiate repair procedures for malfunctions or suboptimal performance of machinery and equipment.
- Start and stop turbines and other power-generation equipment as necessary to maintain safe operation, allow for repair work, and meet changing supply and demand variables.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant safety protocols and legal codes to minimize risk of damage to property and personnel.
- Participate in regular training to improve performance, acquire professional licenses, and maintain certification required by company and government regulations.
- Communicate effectively with other power plant personnel, including managers, engineers, and repair technicians, to encourage teamwork and coordinate tasks.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED, with a minimum of one year electrical or mechanical experience in an industrial setting, or plant operator course. Equivalencies may be considered.
- College/trade school desirable.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Flexibility to work non-traditional hours, including on-call shifts.
- Class 5 driver's license required.
- Must undergo a successful criminal record check.
