The City of Barrie is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Environmental Risk Management and Compliance Co-op Student to join our team. As a Co-op Student, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in environmental risk management and compliance, working closely with our experienced team members.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the City of Barrie's commitment to environmental sustainability and risk management. As a Co-op Student, you will assist the Risk Management Official and Risk Management Inspector with various tasks, including:

  • Assisting with the implementation and enforcement of the City's Source Water Protection Program
  • Supporting the development of Risk Management Plans to address existing and/or future significant drinking water threats
  • Performing initial reviews of development files to ensure proper organization and management of related documents, tasks, and checklists
  • Preparing reports, briefing notes, presentations, statistics, and analysis for the Risk Management Official and Risk Management Inspector
  • Assisting in the development of Source Water Protection information and training materials for City staff, private businesses, industrial facilities, contractors, consultants, and the public
  • Supporting the implementation of the City's Climate Change Adaptation Strategy, including incorporating climate adaptation considerations into City plans and policies and the development of education and outreach programs for residents and businesses
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • Currently enrolled in or is a student in a recognized College or University*
  • Currently enrolled in a recognized College or University Co-op program in Environmental Geoscience, Earth Science, Environmental Technology or Environmental Engineering, and returning to full-time studies
  • Completed at least one (1) full year of a related post-secondary education program at a recognized College or University in Environmental Geoscience, Earth Science, Environmental Technology, and Environmental Engineering program.
