GFL Environmental is seeking a highly skilled Operations Manager to oversee the planning, coordination, and direction of day-to-day waste transfer, receiving, and processing activities.

Reporting to the District Manager or designate, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing all plant operations to ensure efficiency and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinating with departments to enhance operations without disruption.
  • Developing and implementing programs to correct operational inefficiencies and difficulties.
  • Supporting existing Key Performance Indicators to identify operational inefficiencies and difficulties.
  • Assisting in the planning and scheduling of work for all facility operations to ensure efficiencies.
  • Ensuring site compliance with site ECA's and CBA.
  • Ensuring accuracy of the facility's inventory management system.
  • Ensuring site compliance with all other regulatory body governing requirements.
  • Collaborating with sales and call centre for customer inquiries regarding billing and invoicing.
  • Assisting direct reports to improve technical knowledge and capabilities.
  • Developing, implementing, and maintaining programs and procedures for packaging, treatment, storage, transportation, and disposal of wastes.
  • Attending facility audits as required.
  • Supporting budget and forecasting as required.
  • Overseeing and supporting facility's Administration staff.

Health and Safety Responsibilities:

  • Supporting and ensuring all H&S policies and procedures are adhered to by management and staff.
  • Supporting training and orientation of new employees.
  • Assisting in employee conflict and issue resolution as required.
  • Assisting in reporting and investigating all near misses, incidents, and accidents resulting in personal injury and/or property damage.
  • Assisting in the implementation of corrective action as a result of incidents.

Requirements:

  • Post-secondary education (College Diploma or University Education)
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in the environmental waste management industry with a focus on industrial liquid waste industry.
  • Working knowledge of TDGA, O. Reg. 347, and Ontario Health and Safety Act.
  • Competent computer skills (MS Windows and Office).
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Motivated, able to multi-task, and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Safety conscious and detail-oriented.
  • Organizational and people management skills in a large team environment.
  • Ability to design and execute work and project plans.
  • Valid G License with good driver abstract/CVOR abstract.
  • Offers of employment are conditional upon successful completion of required medical, physical, drug, and alcohol testing.
