About the Role

We are seeking a talented commercial lawyer to join our team at AutoTrader. As a key member of our legal department, you will play a crucial role in providing product counsel and negotiating agreements for procurement, inbound licensing, partnerships, and product integrations.

About You

We are looking for a curious, passionate, and driven commercial lawyer with experience and a strong interest in technology. You should have a strong background in drafting and negotiating complex legal agreements, including strategic partnerships, goods and services, software, and other licensing arrangements. Additionally, you should have experience providing legal counsel on new product developments, including drafting terms of service and associated policies.

Requirements for the Role

A or A license to practice law in any common law province in Canada (preferably Ontario and/or Quebec). Relevant legal experience, ideally having started out at a top-tier law firm, followed by in-house experience. Substantial experience drafting and negotiating complex legal agreements, including those related to SaaS and other cloud-based services, API, fintech, and other technology-related offerings. Substantial experience providing legal counsel on new product developments, including drafting terms of service and associated policies. Experience leading and managing projects, and managing multiple priorities, stakeholders, and deadlines. A keen interest in creative legal problem solving, including researching novel and ambiguous areas of law. Experience managing external legal counsel. The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and on an individual basis, without a lot of guidance or oversight. Exceptional business judgement and relationship-building skills. Strong written and interpersonal communication skills. The ability to thrive in a dynamic and entrepreneurial environment.

Bonus Experience

Experience with regulatory law. Experience with privacy and data issues. Experience in commercial negotiation and providing product counsel in the technology sector. Experience with consumer protection, intellectual property, privacy, contest, banking, and marketing and advertising law.
