Lead Technical Artist Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Technical Artist to join our team at Certain Affinity, Inc. in Multiple Countries. This role will be based out of our Toronto, Ontario Studio or our Austin, Texas Studio, with no international relocation required.

About the Role

As a Lead Technical Artist, you will be part of a small team of technical artists, supporting the creation of content for various projects and building tools to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with technical artists to drive the pipeline and tools discussion, working closely with stakeholders to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of art pipelines and their impact on real-time performance, with a focus on optimizing content creation and delivery.
  • Design and implement tools to streamline art pipelines, improve team efficiency, and drive quality, using Python scripting and experience with tool development, iteration, and UI development.
  • Work closely with senior members across disciplines, such as environment art, VFX, lighting, UI, and materials, to ensure cohesive and high-quality project outcomes.
  • Identify and address content issues at an early stage, planning ahead for tools and resources needed to support project pipelines.
  • Research and develop new technologies required for Unreal projects, pushing the boundaries of aesthetic quality while maintaining project performance.
  • Mentor junior team members, providing guidance and support to ensure their growth and success.
Requirements
  • 6+ years of experience in the game industry, specifically supporting art teams on game projects.
  • Experience establishing and driving new workflows for content creation, with a strong foundation in Python scripting for extending content creation tools and automating tasks.
  • Shipped 2+ titles as a technical artist, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality results.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with art, design, and engineering teams.
  • Expert-level knowledge of MAX, Maya, or other 3D software packages, with a solid grasp of performance requirements and constraints of current generation console and PC development.
  • Understanding of PBR materials and material software such as Substance Designer, with a strong understanding of art pipelines and workflow.
