Job Summary:

The Safariland Group is seeking a highly skilled Supply Chain Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our procurement team, you will be responsible for purchasing and negotiating the procurement of materials, supplies, and equipment commonly used by our company.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Under the direction of the Strategic Supply Chain Manager, you will purchase or negotiate the purchase of materials, supplies, and equipment, ensuring that they meet our company's quality and quantity requirements.
  • You will assist with designated general service functions and perform other related work as required.
  • Key duties and responsibilities include:
    • Performing the full range of assigned tasks, exercising discretion and independent judgment within established guidelines.
    • Reviewing purchase requisitions for completeness, evaluating the method of procurement, and determining specification requirements and vendor pool.
    • Securing and comparing information regarding source of supply, price, quality, availability, terms, and conditions, and related information for varied materials, supplies, services, and equipment.
    • Minimizing the number of Goods-in-Transit (GWTs) going between plants by ensuring materials arrive at the correct plant when required according to Material Requirements Planning (MRP).
    • Issuing purchase orders to procure designated types of commodities and equipment, based on company policy, and preparing revisions to purchase orders when requirements change or costs exceed the original order.
    • Ensuring accurate and timely reporting to allow for internal visibility of material status and visibility to purchasing on-time delivery.
    • Monitoring contracts and orders, expediting delivery, comparing invoices to purchase orders, and reconciling discrepancies.
    • Escalating disputes, delivery dates, material shortages, and any other issues to the Strategic Supply Specialist for resolution.
    • Explaining policies and procedures to individuals needing to procure materials, services, and supplies, ensuring compliance with purchasing policies and procedures approved by the Strategic Supply Chain Manager, and identifying and controlling any risks related to services and supplies.
    • Travel is required.
    • Performing other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Possession of a degree or diploma from an accredited college or university with a major in business administration, commerce, materials management, or a related field.
  • Certificate: Possession of a Certified Purchasing Professional or Certified in Production and Inventory Management is desirable.
  • A minimum of five (5) years' experience as a buyer.
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, and methods of purchasing in the private sector, International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), and other applicable laws and regulations.
  • Previous experience procuring materials, equipment, and supplies commonly used in electronics and soft-goods manufacturing, sources of supply, marketing practices, and pricing methods, basic financial record-keeping, contract management, and inventory control principles and procedures, standard office practices and procedures, business English, and basic mathematics.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize work.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.
  • Ability to buy items of the right quantity and quality, at the right price, at the right time from the right source, clearly and accurately express needs of Med-Eng to a wide spectrum of vendors, evaluate bids, reconcile discrepancies, expedite transactions, and follow up on purchasing matters.
  • Make accurate mathematical calculations, organize work, and utilize good time management techniques to meet critical deadlines.
  • React with a sense of urgency and work independently within procedural guidelines to solve purchasing problems, read and interpret policies, procedures, drawings, and specifications.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, maintain detailed and accurate records, establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work using tact and diplomacy.
