About the Role:
As a Mental Health Specialist, you will work with a diverse group of clients with severe and persistent mental illness, concurrent disorders, and dementia. Your primary responsibilities will include providing individualized direct nursing care, discharge planning, and case coordination services. You will also be responsible for conducting physical and psychosocial rehabilitation assessments, consulting with other healthcare professionals, and developing, implementing, and evaluating individualized treatment plans.

Key Responsibilities:
• Provide comprehensive nursing care to clients with complex mental health needs
• Conduct thorough assessments to identify client strengths, weaknesses, and goals
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans that address client-specific needs
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure seamless care coordination
• Communicate effectively with clients, families, and healthcare professionals to promote optimal outcomes

Requirements:
To be successful in this role, you will require:
• Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse or a Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)
• Completion of a minimum 6-week or 240 hours of clinical practicum/preceptorship in a mental health setting, supplemented by coursework in mental health or an equivalent combination of education, training, or experience
• Demonstrated knowledge of concurrent disorders, substance use and abuse, harm reduction strategies, including assessment and intervention
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations
