As a Lead Mechanical Engineer at Sotera Health, you will be an integral part of our Engineering team, directly reporting to the Manager of Production Irradiator (PI) - Mechanical. Your primary responsibility will be to manage the complete lifecycle of Industrial Irradiator projects, from initial design through to final implementation. Collaborating closely with our team, you will leverage your expertise to ensure the effective design and installation of these essential systems, significantly contributing to our organization's growth and success.
Key Duties:In this position, you will serve as a vital member of the PI Mechanical Engineering department, where you will spearhead the design, manufacturing, and installation processes for Industrial Irradiators. Utilizing your extensive background in Engineering and Project Management, you will offer technical direction and oversight to designers, engineers, technologists, and suppliers. Your leadership will be crucial in maintaining project schedules and upholding the highest standards of quality and efficiency. Additionally, you will be expected to engage in approximately 60-90 days of international travel annually to oversee Irradiator installations and provide essential on-site supervision.
Qualifications:The ideal candidate will possess:
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering with professional certification (PEng) or the ability to obtain such certification.
- A minimum of 8-10 years of relevant industrial experience, showcasing mechanical expertise along with a solid understanding of electrical, controls, and process engineering.
- Proficiency in Solidworks or similar design and modeling software.
- Demonstrated project management capabilities developed through practical experience.
- A strong foundation in mechanical design, highlighting innovative solutions and meticulous attention to detail.
The successful candidate should exhibit:
- Self-motivation paired with proven leadership abilities to inspire and guide teams toward achieving objectives.
- A minimum of 5 years' experience managing large-scale projects exceeding $500k, demonstrating skill in navigating complex project logistics and challenges.
- Exceptional decision-making skills, capable of making informed choices under pressure to drive project success.
- Strong communication skills, including effective presentation abilities, to clearly and persuasively convey ideas and project progress.
- Over 5 years of experience in customer-facing roles, building strong client relationships and understanding their requirements.
- Proficiency in technical writing, with a history of producing comprehensive technical reports, proposals, and project documentation.
- Adeptness in organizing, delegating tasks, and overseeing job sites with multiple contractors, ensuring efficient project coordination and execution.
- Expertise in planning, scheduling, executing, and delivering both internal and external projects with precision and attention to detail.
- Competency in project estimating to accurately assess resource needs and project costs.
- Strong time management skills, capable of prioritizing tasks and maintaining focus amidst competing demands.
- Experience in preparing and distributing reports to various stakeholders, effectively conveying technical details, results, and conclusions.
- Training Requirement: The successful candidate must complete all mandatory training and certification as a Nuclear Energy Worker to ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
- International Travel Capability: The role necessitates the ability to travel internationally as needed for project installations and supervision.
- Background Verification: As part of the screening process, background verification, including FBI fingerprinting, will be conducted to uphold security measures and ensure suitability for the position.
