About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Project Risk Management Leader to join our team at Teck. As a key member of our Projects Group, you will be responsible for leading the implementation, oversight, and improvement of Project Risk Management practices across our major projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead Project Risk Management Function: Develop, maintain, and improve project risk practices, tools, and templates, ensuring conformance with Teck standards.
  • Integrate Risk Management into Business Planning: Apply risk management into business planning activities and the Projects Group Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Collaborate with Functional Leaders: Support continual improvement of risk management practices, outcomes, and capabilities with other Projects Group functional leaders.
  • Communicate with Corporate Groups: Communicate and collaborate with relevant corporate groups, including Enterprise Risk Management and Risk and Insurance.
  • Develop Risk Management System: Support the design and development of the Projects Group centralized risk management system, enabling a portfolio view of risks and required reporting.
  • Lead Risk Workshops: Plan and execute risk workshops on projects and for the group.
  • Coordinate Risk Leads: Ensure effective integration of lessons learned into risk management processes and projects.
  • Ensure Consultant and Contractor Compliance: Ensure risk management provided by external consultants and contractors meet Projects Group requirements and are adequately applied and coordinated.
  • Deliver Risk Reporting: Build and deliver regular risk reporting and/or other risk-related communication.
  • Work with Project Controls: Ensure quantitative risk assessments are conducted to enhance awareness and confidence in schedule/cost impacts.
  • Promote Risk Awareness: Promote increased awareness and ownership of risk throughout projects and across the department.
  • Resource Project Risk Professionals: Organize and resource qualified project risk professionals to support projects.
Requirements
  • Experience: Minimum 15 years of experience in major capital-intensive mining, industrial, or infrastructure projects, including breadth of experience across multiple project areas.
  • Risk Management Experience: Minimum 10 years of experience in risk management on major capital projects.
  • Education: Degree or equivalent experience in engineering, business administration, or other related fields.
  • Risk Management Tools and Methodologies: Sophisticated knowledge of risk management tools and methodologies, including demonstrated ability to develop, build, and improve risk management systems and/or processes.
  • International Risk Management Standards: Expertise in the application of international Risk Management Standards, e.g. ISO 31000, ISO 31010, IEC 62198, PRAM, and PMI.
  • Facilitation Experience: Outstanding facilitation experience within major capital project environments.
  • Continuous Improvement: Eagerness for continuous improvement and willingness to take on additional responsibilities.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in MS Office (Outlook / Word / Excel / Visio / PowerPoint) and SharePoint.
  • Professional Certifications: PMI-Risk Management Professional or other professional certifications are an asset.
  • Modern Risk Management Information Systems: Working knowledge of modern risk management information systems and software, e.g. AuditBoard, ARM, Predict, etc.
  • Quantitative Models: Proficiency in the application of quantitative models for cost and schedule, including risk analysis software applications, e.g. Primavera Risk Analysis, @Risk, Safran, etc.
  • Language Skills: Proficiency in Spanish is an asset.
