About the Opportunity

The University of Toronto's Faculty of Law is seeking a highly motivated and organized Research Associate to provide legal research and advocacy support to the David Asper Centre for Constitutional Rights. The successful candidate will work closely with Asper Centre students and partners to advance constitutional rights research and advocacy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth research on constitutional rights issues, particularly in the areas of constitutional litigation, positive rights under the Charter, and experiential education.
  • Research, draft, and edit policy papers, advocacy materials, legal submissions, and reports on constitutional rights issues.
  • Develop and implement effective advocacy strategies to advance constitutional rights.
  • Assist with the research, development, and supervision of Asper Centre clinic projects.
  • Liaise with various stakeholders, including community partners, to advance constitutional rights research and advocacy.

Qualifications

  • Must possess an LLB or JD (LLM would be considered an asset).
  • Minimum two (2) years' work experience directly related to constitutional rights research and advocacy, including legislative advocacy.
  • Experience in constitutional rights advocacy and litigation (experience clerking with an appellate court would be considered an asset).

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong legal research skills.
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills in English.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Strong computer proficiency (Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel).
