Job Summary

The Manitoba Government is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to fill the role of Manager, Water Quality Management Section. This position is responsible for leading provincial efforts to manage, protect, and rehabilitate surface water quality across Manitoba.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise and leadership in the development and implementation of water quality management programs and legislation.
  • Oversee a section comprised of professional personnel, providing guidance and support to ensure effective delivery of programs and services.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including other government agencies, resource user groups, and Indigenous peoples, to develop and implement effective water quality management strategies.
  • Develop and manage budgets, ensuring fiscal accountability and effective use of resources.
  • Provide leadership on transboundary water quality management, working with other provinces and stakeholders to address shared water quality concerns.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in an aquatic-related discipline, or an equivalent combination of related education, training, and experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of aquatic biology, chemistry, and abiotic/biotic environmental interrelationships.
  • Experience in program management and planning, including designing studies, budgeting, and implementing complex water quality related programs.
  • Excellent organizational, decision-making, and strategic thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience, with the ability to coach and mentor staff.
  • Highly developed listening and interpersonal skills, with the ability to maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.

Working Conditions

  • Must be willing and able to work overtime when required.
  • Must be willing and able to travel throughout the province by air, land, and water, and occasionally outside of Manitoba.
  • Must be willing and able to undertake field work under sometimes harsh weather conditions.
