Job Summary

The Surgical Day Care team at Halton Healthcare is seeking a Registered Practical Nurse with strong surgical experience to join our multidisciplinary team. As a key member of our team, you will provide patient-focused care in a dynamic and rapidly changing environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with the operational growth of the surgical program
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to plan and implement care for a wide variety of surgical cases
  • Provide pre and post-operative care for patients, including orthopedic and ophthalmology cases
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with patients, families, and healthcare teams
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and safety
Requirements
  • Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Current BCLS Certification
  • Recent experience with ophthalmology pre and post-op care
  • Experience with orthopedic patients, especially total joint replacements
  • Knowledge of pain management
  • Experience with Acute Pain Service
  • Experience with regional anesthesia (peripheral nerve blocks and spinals)
  • CVAD experience
  • Recent surgical experience in a day surgery environment
  • Strong skills in IV insertion
  • Required skills include aseptic technique, wound care, ostomy care, CBI care, foley catheter insertion and management, IV care and management, including blood product administration and monitoring
  • Experience in medication administration
  • Organized and able to work in a team environment
  • Self-directed
  • Demonstrates strong critical thinking skills
  • Caring, compassionate and patient and family-centred
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced environment
  • Sound knowledge of nursing process, theory, and responsibilities to the profession
  • Sound problem-solving, conflict resolution and decision making skills
  • Functions independently within scope of practice
  • Maximizes utilization of resources
  • Evidence of continuing education/learning
  • Aware of multicultural issues affecting health care needs
  • Basic computer skills - Order Entry module of Meditech
  • Familiarity with Smarttrack (OR Manager)
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position
  • Satisfactory employment and attendance record
