Job Title: Shelter Worker

At The Salvation Army, we are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Shelter Worker to join our team. As a key member of our residential program, you will play a vital role in providing a safe and supportive environment for our residents.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide emotional support and guidance to residents, promoting their well-being and independence.
  • Oversee daily operations, including meal preparation, cleaning, and maintenance of the shelter.
  • Develop and implement individualized plans to address residents' needs and goals.
  • Collaborate with external agencies and community resources to ensure residents receive comprehensive support.
  • Conduct regular safety checks and maintain a secure environment.
  • Perform administrative tasks, including record-keeping and reporting.
Qualifications and Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education in social work, psychology, or a related field preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Certificate in First Aid and CPR, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training, and WHMIS training.
  • Immunization for Hepatitis B and vaccination against Tuberculosis.
Experience and Skills:
  • At least three months of experience in a social services setting, preferably in a frontline role.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
