Peer Support Specialist

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Peer Support Worker to join our Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team in Burnaby, B.C. As a Peer Support Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals with mental health conditions and/or substance use experiences to live successfully in the community.
Key Responsibilities:- Establish and maintain positive relationships with clients, their families, and community service providers.
- Provide emotional and social support, life skills assistance, information, resources, and demonstrations to clients.
- Collaborate with the ACT team to develop and implement individualized care plans that promote client autonomy and self-management.
- Assist clients with community integration activities, including escorting them to various community services and opportunities.
- Share information and lived experience perspectives with the ACT team to inform service delivery and improve client outcomes.
- Lived experience of mental illness.
- Grade 12 completion of a recognized peer support worker training program.
- One year recent related work experience with an emphasis on mental health, addictions, homelessness, and/or social services.
- Food Safe Certificate.
- Current valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage.
- Ability to engage clients and establish/maintain rapport with clients and their families.
- Ability to work with a culturally diverse population and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Knowledge of available programs and services, and ability to analyze and problem-solve.
- Ability to model, instruct, and teach life skills, and observe and recognize changes in clients.
- Ability to work independently and use effective interpersonal skills to establish/maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, the public, and other agencies.
