Healthcare Career Access Program for Emerging Professionals

Northern Health Authority is offering a unique training opportunity for individuals looking to launch their healthcare career. The Healthcare Career Access Program is designed to equip participants with the skills and knowledge required to succeed in this field.
Salary
The program offers a stipend of $24.80 per hour for 37.5 hours per week, totaling approximately $9,576 per month. This stipend is non-pensionable and not insurable under Employment Insurance (EI).
Job Description
This role involves completing the Health Care Assistant certification program at a post-secondary institution with tuition paid by the Ministry of Health. Participants will be paid while studying and upon successful completion, they will commence employment as a Care Aide or Community Health Worker. The program includes both online and face-to-face learning, with a combination of theory, clinicals, and practicum/preceptorship portions. Travel and overnight stays may be required for class, labs, or clinical placements. Some associated costs may be covered by the program.
Required Skills and Qualifications
To be eligible, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Grade 10, including successful completion of English 10 or equivalency
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to deal with others effectively
- Ability to organize work
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
- Ability to operate related equipment
Benefits
Upon successful completion of the program, participants will be registered with the BC Care Aide/Community Health Worker Registry and will have the opportunity to secure a permanent position within Northern Health. They will also receive a one-time $342 stipend to assist with pre-requisite courses and necessary books. The program provides a clear path for career advancement in the healthcare sector.

Candidates must be Canadian citizens or have Permanent Residency status in Canada. They must also complete a Criminal Record Check for working with children and vulnerable adults, possess a valid BC Drivers License, and sign a 12-month Return of Service agreement.
