At VERICO, we are seeking an experienced and driven Mortgage Underwriter to join our team. As a key member of our mortgage brokerage team, you will have the opportunity to thrive in a fast-paced environment, delivering exceptional service to our valued clients.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about helping clients navigate the complexities of the mortgage process. Having a mortgage broker license is necessary for this position, so we will look for the successful candidate to enroll in the course immediately if they do not have their license at present.

Job Summary:

  • Engage with clients to understand their unique financial needs and goals.
  • Submit files to lenders for approval, vetting documents and lender conditions, communicating with clients via phone and email as well as occasionally in person.
  • Work as a fully licensed representative of the head broker and take responsibility for all facets of a file from start to finish. Be adaptable to changing work-flows on a daily basis.
  • Analyze financial statements to assess client eligibility for various mortgage programs. Navigate lender requirements to secure approvals and close deals efficiently.
  • Uphold our reputation for excellence in customer service through clear communication and professionalism at all times.
  • Familiarity with mortgage lending processes and programs is advantageous.
  • Be open and willing to take direction from the head broker as needed from time to time.
  • Be friendly to clients and industry partners while enduring the pressures that mortgage underwriting can bring. We are looking for someone who can think outside the box to get deals approved and who enjoys the challenges of a diverse mortgage portfolio.
  • Fluent verbal and written English skills are a necessity for this role.
  • Full working knowledge of Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel and Adobe.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a customer-centric mindset. Detail-oriented with a knack for problem-solving.

Compensation Details:

  • Our work schedule is Monday to Friday 8:30am – 5:15pm with a 45-minute unpaid lunch. We are closed for all statutory holidays.
  • The hourly rate of pay is $38 per hour based on a 40-hour work week ($79,040 per year).
  • We provide paid statutory holidays (12 total currently) and 15 paid holiday days.
