About the Role



We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Safety and Compliance Specialist to join our team at HITACHI RAIL STS CANADA, INC. in downtown Toronto, Canada.



This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned professional to contribute to the development and implementation of our Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Management System.



As a Senior Safety and Compliance Specialist, you will play a key role in ensuring compliance with ISO 45001 standards and provincial regulations. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to identify and mitigate risks, develop and implement policies and procedures, and conduct internal audits and inspections.



In this role, you will be responsible for:




  • Developing, implementing, maintaining, and continually improving the HSE Management System;
  • Ensuring compliance with ISO 45001 standards and provincial regulations;
  • Promoting HSE awareness and engagement among employees and leaders;
  • Developing and maintaining hazard identification, risk assessment, and control evaluation processes;
  • Identifying legislative and other requirements and maintaining compliance records;
  • Establishing and managing internal auditing and inspection programs;
  • Leading root cause incident investigations and corrective action planning;
  • Maintaining accurate records of HSE performance metrics and benchmarking data;
  • Communicating HSE information to employees, leaders, and stakeholders;
  • Supporting the development and completion of Corrective Action Plans and Continual Improvement Plans.


Requirements include:




  • 2-5 years of experience in HSE management;
  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field or Associate's degree in Occupational Safety and Health;
  • Experience implementing HSE programs and policies within ISO 45001 certified organizations;
  • Experience developing and implementing internal auditing programs;
  • Ability to inspect and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, and practices for compliance;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office and software applications related to HSE management;
  • A valid non-probationary Ontario Class "G" driver's license.


The ideal candidate will have experience in large-scale industrial construction projects, lead auditor certification, and proficiency in Human and Organizational Performance Management techniques. A Master's degree in Occupational Safety and Health Discipline and accreditation by the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals (BCRSP) or the Board of Certified Safety Professionals as a Certified Safety Professional are desirable qualifications.



Salary: $80,000 - $110,000 per annum, depending on experience.
