About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Needs Educational Support Professional to join our team at Atlantic Memorial - Terence Bay Elementary. As an integral part of our educational program, you will play a vital role in supporting students with diverse needs.

Job Overview

This is a 10-month position with a competitive compensation package, including a starting annual salary of $35,817.70, which includes 4% vacation pay. The salary is based on a five-step scale with annual increases according to the Collective Agreement.

The successful candidate will work closely with teachers, other support staff, and families to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment that promotes academic and personal growth for all students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support students with special needs in a classroom setting, assisting with daily living tasks, communication, and behavioral management as needed.
  • Collaborate with teachers to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and adapt curriculum materials to meet the needs of students with disabilities.
  • Provide one-on-one support and small group instruction to students who require additional assistance.
  • Assist with data collection and progress monitoring to inform instruction and support student success.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports related to student progress and behavior.
Requirements
  • A diploma or certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution, including a formal practicum placement.
  • Valid First Aid/CPR Certification and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification.
  • Light lifting (up to 20 pounds), medium lifting (up to 50 pounds), and the ability to perform other physical demands of the job.
  • Willingness to be trained in areas such as toileting, personal care, use of assistive technology, tube feeding, physiotherapy follow-up, seizure management, behavior management support, and other medical-related procedures.
