Job Summary:
The Senior Vice President, Corporate Development Strategist will be responsible for developing and executing the overall strategy for the Division, ensuring delivery of profitable underwriting results. This role will oversee underwriting direction and profitability, supporting growth through the implementation of strategic direction and selling of products.
Key Responsibilities:
- Underwriting Performance:
- Manage the portfolio to achieve business and profitability goals, both currently and in the future.
- Address social, economic, and environmental factors impacting the book, now and in the future.
- Utilize pricing capability and resources to drive insight, performance, and better outcomes.
- Ensure delivery of Portfolio Performance and Combined Ratio reviews.
- Act as the highest referral point for underwriting risks in Canada.
- Sponsor referrals to the wider Markel business units.
- Enterprise Leadership:
- Develop and communicate divisional underwriting strategy, including risk appetite, limit deployment, aggregation, pricing, exposure change/inflation, key terms and conditions, and their translation into activities, to support Canadian plan and growth goals.
- Monitor the insurance marketplace and identify underwriting opportunities, threats, and emerging risks.
- Product Development:
- Manage and coordinate product development and material change in risk process.
- Manage technical product teams.
- Act as the Risk Officer for the Canadian division.
- Ensure DA processes and procedures are appropriate in line with international standards.
Requirements:
- Deep understanding of the Canadian insurance market dynamics, trends, and regulatory landscape.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategic vision and direction of the book.
- Strong reputation in the Canadian market with established long-term partnerships with senior c-suite brokers.
- Unwavering commitment to upholding the highest standards of integrity, ethics, and adherence to a sound corporate environment.
- Ability to recruit, develop, and retain top talent within the region, fostering a high-performance culture and a robust talent pipeline.
