We are seeking an experienced Admissions Counsellor to join our team at the University of Toronto. As an Admissions Counsellor, you will play a critical role in supporting the assessment and processing of applications to undergraduate programmes.
Key Responsibilities- Application Assessment: Review and assess admissions applications to ensure that they meet the necessary criteria for undergraduate programmes.
- Counselling Services: Provide expert counselling services to students and their families on the admissions process, including programme options and requirements, cut-offs, appeals, transfer credits, and explaining/interpreting University admissions policies.
- Operational Administrative Functions: Perform a variety of operational administrative functions, including developing and presenting workshops and presentations to the University community on admission topics.
- Resource Provision: Serve as a resource to assigned university colleges, faculties, or departments by providing advice, guidance, and interpretation of university and government admission policies, processes, and regulations.
- Education: Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
- Experience: Minimum four (4) years relevant experience in a high volume admissions environment, preferably a university or college institution.
- Counselling Experience: Direct experience in counselling students in admissions to undergraduate, first-entry divisions.
- Presentation Experience: Experience conducting presentations/workshops/training sessions to external and internal attendees.
- Policy Knowledge: Experience interpreting and applying the University and education systems worldwide, admissions policies and requirements for all undergraduate programmes as well as general university policies.
- Technical Skills: Advanced computer skills, including word processing, creating and manipulating spreadsheets, posting to and navigating websites, creating PowerPoint presentations.
- Communication Skills: Ability to effectively provide information and advice to staff, students, and the general public – individually or in group settings.
- Student Service Orientation: Strong student service orientation, tact, and diplomacy in dealing with students and their family members, relate well with a diverse student population.
- Adaptability: Ability to adapt to new procedures quickly and accurately.
- Judgment and Discretion: Must be able to use independent judgment and discretion when processing applications and responding to enquiries.
- High Volume Environment: Ability to work in a high volume environment and ability to work well under pressure.
- Familiarity with University Systems: Familiarity with the University's student information system or with a comparable system is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with Financial Budgeting Tools: Familiarity with financial budgeting tools and resources is desirable.
- Adaptability: Adaptable and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Multi-tasking: Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Organization: Highly organized and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Problem Solving: Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think critically.
- Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
