Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Pharmacy Assistant to join our team at the South Health Campus. As a Pharmacy Assistant, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our pharmacy services, including medication preparation, inventory management, and supply chain coordination.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and package medications according to established procedures
  • Manage and replenish medication inventory levels under the supervision of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians
  • Coordinate the transportation of pharmacy items between departments and patient care areas
  • Assist with non-sterile components of sterile pharmaceutical product preparation
  • Monitor and maintain pharmacy inventory and supplies, including outdated products
  • Perform routine physical cleaning and maintenance on pharmacy equipment
  • Complete records and filing associated with all duties
  • Participate in hospital and departmental quality assurance and improvement activities
  • Assist in training and orientation of new employees, students, and pharmacy residents
Requirements
  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Working knowledge of pharmacy terms and medication names
  • Graduate of a recognized pharmacy assistant program or recent retail or hospital pharmacy experience acceptable to the employer
  • Experience with Windows-based computer applications
  • Fluency in the English language (both written and verbal)
  • Typing skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Automated dispensing cabinet (ADC) recent experience preferred
  • SHC Pharmacy experience and inventory preferred
  • Narcotic vault management preferred
  • Recent knowledge of various office equipment, unit dose packaging equipment, and pharmaceutical compounding equipment
  • Experience with word processing and pharmacy computer software
  • Knowledge of pharmacy drug formulary
